The Malaysian Association of Hotels (Penang Chapter) had a gala “Mingle & Jingle” dinner at the St Giles Wembley Hotel saw the attendance of more than 650 guests.

Present was the Chief Minister of Penang YAB Chow Kon Yeow, newly appointed Tourism and Creative Economy Exco Wong Hon Wai, immediate past Tourism Exco Yeoh Soon Hin and various captains of the hospitality industry.

Also present was MAH Penang chairman Tony Goh, MAH National president Datin Christina Toh, MAH National CEO, Isaac Mohan Raj and the members of the organising committee.

In his address Chow hailed the hospitality industry as one of the main contributors to the economy of the state and  expressed his profound optimism for the future of Penang’s tourism and hospitality sector.

“The collective efforts of the individuals and organisations within our tourism and hospitality industry have transformed Penang into a world-renowned destination.

“The Malaysian Association of Hotels – Penang Chapter, in particular, deserves special compliments for your tireless work in promoting excellence within this industry.

“Penang, often celebrated as the “Pearl of the Orient,” is not just a geographical location but a melting pot of culture, history, natural beauty, and warm hospitality. Our beautiful state holds a special place in Malaysia’s tourism landscape which is known for its vibrant culture, stunning landscapes and diverse culinary delights. All these create an environment that is truly unique and unforgettable.

“I believe this explains the 60 to 80 percent occupancy rates especially on weekends for the 16,000 room inventories under MAH,” said Chow.

He also acknowledged the efforts and sacrifices of those who came before us.

“The pioneers who laid the foundation of our great state, their determination and resilience, are the pillars upon which we continue to build. It is our duty to preserve and to celebrate this foundation, ensuring that the stories of our forefathers are passed down through the generations,” he said.

He also shared that there will be an intense promotion of high economic value programmes such as exhibitions, performing arts and MICE activities by PCEB led by their CEO, Ashwin Gunassekeran and PGT led by Ooi Chok Yan.

Meanwhile, Wong in his maiden speech said that it is both an honour and a responsibility for him to assume office as the Penang State EXCO for Tourism and Creative Economy.

“I am deeply touched and inspired by all your generous words of
congratulations and encouragement. The hotel industry is a key pillar to the growth of Penang’s tourism.

“I am glad that many hotels pressed on and transformed, to cope with the revenue losses from both domestic and international travel.

“Your resilience and adaptability have played a big part in Penang’s strong recovery,” he shared.

Guests were treated to a fine dinner, entertainment and lucky draw session.

The gathering also served to meet friends and also make new acquaintances.

Penang Hyperlocal wishes to congratulate MAH Penang for the great night of camaraderie and goodwill forged at the gala dinner.
