The Malaysian Association of Hotels (Penang Chapter) initiated a collaboration with Polis DiRaja Malaysia (PDRM) to ensure the safety and security of guests and visitors.

The programme dubbed “Creating Relationships and Safe Hotels” or “Crash” in short is a first of such collaboration aimed at taking preventive measures against crime.

The initiative is expected to educate hotel employees in terms of their safety, rights, observation techniques, information gathering, become good fitness, reporting suspicious individuals, vehicles and activities.

On hand to launch the collaboration was Penang CPO Dato Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain along with MAH Penang Chapter chairman, M. Raj Kumar.

Also present was  deputy CPO Dato Fisol Salleh, SAC Rahimi Ra’ais (Chief of Crime Department), SAC Mohd Nasri Omar (Chief of Crime Prevention and Community Safety), ACP Mohd Asmadi Yusoff ( Commercial Crime Chief), ACP Soffian Santong, Timur Laut District Chief), ACP Shafee Samad (SPT Chief) and Jafri Mohd Zain (Deputy Chief for Daerah Barat Daya).

Hon Secretary of MAH Penang and general manager of Wembley Hotel Tony Goh and vice chairman, Ben Ho (Lexis Hotel GM) were also present.

“We want to avoid hotels being used by criminal and undesirable elements from carrying out their activities by working with the hotels here.

“Among the usual crimes are money laundering, online gambling, credit card fraud, drugs, prostitution, forgery among others. 

“We want to thank MAH Penang for initiating this project which can prevent and bring safety and security to all,” said Dato Fisol.

He also added that hotels through their security personnel and staff can play a vital role in this effort.

Meanwhile, Raj Kumar added that the campaign is organized to build better relationships between hotel employees and PDRM to make hotels safer for guests.

“The primary objectives are to effectively detect and reduce potential problems thus increasing the safety of hotel employees, guests and overall community,” said Raj.

PDRM will also provide training sessions on the relevant areas for the hotel staff and management.
