Langkawi will be open to foreign holiday-makers without quarantine wef Nov 15, 2021.

The announcement was made by Prime Minister Datuk Sri Ismail Sabri recently.

However, according to the Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Datuk Nancy Shukri, the visitors will have to use only registered tour agents with the ministry.

“This is to ensure that all SOPs are followed strictly. In case there is any outbreak of infection, the tour agent will be held responsible,” she added.

Following this announcement, the Langkawi International Airport (LIA) is expected to become a hive of activity again.

In its heyday, the LIA saw direct flights from China, Middle East and other destinations.

It will also benefit taxi, Grab and other e-hailing operators, not to mention hotels, restaurants, tourists attractions and other related services.

Meanwhile, the Malaysian Association of Hotels MAH Kedah / Perlis) chapter chairman, Eugene Dass added that their members are looking forward to this new development.

“Nevertheless, strict SOPs at the various hotels are in place to ensure the safety and health of any guest.

“Surely this is good news for the hospitality industry which has been greatly impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic since last year,” he said to Penang Hyperlocal.
