
A gala dinner was held at Royale Chulan Penang to commemorate the 62nd anniversary of the Lions Club of George Town, marking over six decades of dedicated service to the community.
The momentous occasion brought together some 200 Lions members and distinguished guests from near and far, reflecting the club’s strong bonds and enduring fellowship built over generations.
Guests were warmly welcomed by Lions Club of George Town President Dato Gulab Mahatam Rai, together with his dedicated team, who hosted an evening rich in tradition, recognition and camaraderie.
Adding an international flavour to the celebration were Lions members from China, the Philippines, Singapore, Hong Kong and Macau, joining their Malaysian counterparts in honouring the club’s long-standing legacy.


Among the highlights of the evening were the customary roll call of Lions dignitaries, the recognition of clubs, and the presentation of customary and state awards, as well as life membership honours.
Special recognition was also accorded to long-serving members, with commemorative mementos presented in appreciation of their unwavering dedication. Notably, several members were honoured for more than 50 years of service, underscoring the club’s proud tradition of lifelong commitment to service.
Dignitaries present included International Director Lion Dato Yeow Wah Chin; Past International Directors Lion Datin Ellis Suriyati Hj. Omar and Lion Jeff Huang; District Governor Lion Tan Say Cheong; Dato Dr Cheng Joo An; Lion Dato Jimmy Ong; Lion Dr Telochan; Lion Peter Chung, as well as many other esteemed Lions members.
The evening was further enriched by an address from the Guest of Honour, International Director Lion Dato Yeow Wah Chin, who shared his insights and reflections, celebrating the Lions Club of George Town’s remarkable journey and its continued impact over 62 years of service.
