In a much welcomed move to further promote the tourism industry in Langkawi, the Langkawi International Airport (LIA) received the inaugural flight of the LOT Polish Airlines to the island recently.
The initiative is a collaboration between Tourism Malaysia (TM) and the Langkawi Development Authority (LADA).
The chartered flight of LOT Polish Airlines was from Warsaw, Poland to Langkawi commenced Oct 28, 2024.
This flight will be operated on a weekly basis – every Sunday from Warsaw until May 2025, which is expected to attract 4,000 tourists from Poland throughout the flight schedule.
Present to receive the passengers was the Director General of Tourism Malaysia, Datuk Manoharan Periasamy, Northern Region Director for Tourism Malaysia, Shahrul Aman and LADA representatives.
Meanwhile, the Malaysian Association of Hotels (MAH Kedah/Perlis Chapter) chairman, Eugene Dass welcomed the new flight as it will help boost hotel occupancy on the island and the overall tourism sector on the holiday island.
“This is indeed great news. Any sort of initiative to support tourism and fill up hotel rooms is much welcomed.
“The timing seems right too, given Visit Kedah Year 2025. Hotels are always ready to welcome both international and domestic guests”, said Dass to Penang Hyperlocal when contacted.
