Kafe Dapor Rumah officially opened its doors in June this year.

Located in the heart of Georgetown, Penang (Bishop Street), it brings with it the warmth, nostalgia and comfort of home-cooked Malaysian flavours.

The word “Dapor” means home kitchen in Malay, a fitting name for a place where every dish is crafted to remind you of family meals made with love. At Dapor Rumah, the concept is simple yet heartfelt — good food, good vibes and the feeling of being home.

Dapor Rumah is the result of four friends coming together, each bringing unique strengths to the table, a legal consultant, an experienced chef, an F&B industry veteran with over ten years of experience and a t-shirt supplier with an entrepreneurial spirit.

Despite their different backgrounds, they share one passion: to create a cosy, welcoming spot where people can enjoy authentic Malaysian flavours in a home-style setting. It’s a blend of experience, creativity, and heart — all working together to deliver one purpose: Good Food and Good Vibes.

The menu at Dapor Rumah celebrates the richness of Malaysian cuisine. Some of the most-loved dishes include: Dapor Mee Udang – A rich, prawn-based broth bursting with bold Penang flavours, Curry Laksa – Creamy, aromatic, and perfectly spiced for comfort in every spoonful, Ayam Masak Merah & Nasi Lemak Rendang – Packed with traditional spices and heartwarming flavours, Homemade Nyonya Kueh – Freshly made in-house daily; colourful, soft, and filled with the traditional sweetness we all grew up with.

Beyond the signatures, diners can also enjoy local favourites like Hainanese Chicken Chop, Roti Jala with Curry Chicken, Nyonya Pai Tee, and lighter bites such as Steamed Nyonya Bun with Kaya Butter.

Every day, there’s also a rotating selection of traditional Nyonya Kueh — from Kuih Talam and Seri Muka to Ondeh-Ondeh — all prepared using natural ingredients and authentic recipes.

Heading the kitchen is Chef Melvis Leong, who brings over a decade of experience in both Western and local Malaysian cuisine. Known for her meticulous attention to detail — from balancing spices to perfecting presentation — Chef Melvis ensures that every plate that leaves the kitchen carries the warmth and soul of a home-cooked meal.

Dapor Rumah has quickly become a favourite among locals and visitors alike. On weekdays, office workers drop by for a comforting lunch, while weekends bring in families and tourists exploring Georgetown. Many customers say the food reminds them of home — and that’s exactly the feeling the founders hoped to create.

To complete the experience, Dapor Rumah is introducing a unique drink menu inspired by Malaysian flavours such as calamansi, pandan, and coconut. One of the standout creations is their playful twist on a Penang classic — Hor Ka Sai (Milo mixed with coffee) topped with salted cream. It’s rich, smooth, and slightly salty — a delightful balance that has quickly become a customer favourite.

For the founders, Dapor Rumah isn’t just a café — it’s their way of sharing a piece of home with everyone who walks in. Every detail, from the flavours to the friendly atmosphere, is designed to make guests feel relaxed, connected, and comforted — just like stepping into a family kitchen.

So whether you’re craving a bowl of laksa, a sweet bite of Nyonya kueh, or simply a cosy place to unwind — Dapor Rumah welcomes you home. They also offer a meeting room corporate and private gatherings too.

They operate from 8am to 5pm. Wednesdays are their off days. For now, parking is readily available and free of charge for customers.
