It’s congratulations all around for experienced hotelier Jordon Lim, who steps into his new role as General Manager of Cheong Fatt Tze – The Blue Mansion, the legendary heritage hotel that has long stood as an icon in the heart of George Town, Penang.
Lim brings with him extensive experience in the hospitality industry, having held a variety of operational and management positions across hotels and resorts throughout his career. His professional journey includes stints at Rasa Sayang Resort & Spa, Eastern & Oriental Hotel, Sunway Hotel Georgetown, Berjaya Hotel Times Square Kuala Lumpur, SSL Traders Hotel Taiping and, more recently, Jazz Hotel.
One of his longest and most significant tenures was with the G Hotel Group, where he took on various roles spanning both Rooms and Food & Beverage operations, gaining valuable experience across different facets of hotel management.
In his new role at The Blue Mansion, Lim will oversee the overall management of the boutique heritage hotel, with responsibility extending across operations, sales and marketing, as well as guest experience.
His appointment comes at an exciting time for the Cheong Fatt Tze hospitality portfolio, as the iconic Blue Mansion continues to evolve while staying firmly rooted in its heritage.
Built in the late 19th century by Chinese merchant and philanthropist Cheong Fatt Tze, The Blue Mansion is one of George Town’s most recognisable heritage landmarks. The striking indigo-blue mansion combines traditional Chinese architectural elements with Western influences and craftsmanship, including Scottish cast-iron work, English Art Nouveau stained glass and intricate Chinese decorative details. Following an extensive conservation effort, the mansion was restored and subsequently opened as a boutique hotel. It went on to receive the UNESCO Asia-Pacific Heritage Award for Most Excellent Project in 2000.
Today, the mansion offers just 18 rooms and suites, allowing guests to experience a more intimate stay within its historic courtyards, gardens and distinctive architectural spaces.
Adding another chapter to the Blue Mansion story is the newly unveiled The Qing Suites, located approximately 80 metres across the road from the mansion. The suites occupy a restored row of five terrace houses originally built by Cheong Fatt Tze in 1904 as servants’ quarters. After decades of separation from the main mansion and a painstaking restoration and conversion, the property was unveiled in 2025 as a new accommodation and wellness offering.
The Qing Suites comprises 13 suites, complemented by a traditional Chinese medicine-focused spa, offering a more contemporary and tranquil interpretation of the Cheong Fatt Tze legacy while remaining closely connected to The Blue Mansion. The property effectively reunites two historically connected parts of the original estate, giving guests another way to experience George Town’s living heritage.
With Lim now at the helm, the timing is particularly interesting as Cheong Fatt Tze Hotels & Residences continues to build on the legacy of The Blue Mansion while expanding its hospitality offering.
