The Cascade at the Amari SPICE Penang hosted a wine fine tasting session for some premium Italian labels recently.

In all, some 15 guests attended the session which saw them feted to a selection of red and white wine range.

They were mostly from the Food & Beverage Departments from several hotels on the island.

Among the choices of wine they enjoyed were the Tenuta Montecchiesi Vermentino Chardonnay IGT, Toscana, Mansalto La Commenda Chianti Docg, Toscana, Italy, Paolo Leo Varietali Primitivo IGP Salento, Italy and the Paolo Leo Orfeo Negroamaro Puglia, Italy.

Hosting the gathering was ex-hotelier and sommelier, Mohan Naidu who took guests on a journey of awareness and insights on the preparation of the various wine range.

Guests were also treated with a cheese platter and other snacks prepared by the hotel to go with their wine.

Present to greet the guests was Amari SPICE Penang’s assistant food and beverage director, Danson Khaw, Marcom director, Janet Lam and Executive Assistant Manager, Christine Rock.

The Amari SPICE Penang hopes to host more such wine tasting sessions to elevate the knowledge and awareness of wine lovers in Penang.

Only the previous week, the Amari SPICE Penang hosted a gin tasting session for guests.

At the end of the wine tasting session, my personal favourite was the full-bodied and high-tannin, Paolo Leo Orfeo Negroamaro Puglia, Italy which comes through with its strong flavours and also goes well with your dining needs.

With a record number of hotels and resorts expected to open in Penang by the end of this year and next year, there will be plenty of wine to go around.
