Renovation work at the former Mutiara Beach Resort underway
Renovation work at the former 5-star Penang Mutiara Beach Resort in Teluk Bahang is “fast and furiously” underway.
Workers were seen busy going about their work to break down and clear up the unwanted undergrowth and other materials.
Consistent drilling sound could also be heard from the road outside.
Based on the sign board put up, the new hotel, The Intercontinental Hotel brand is under the IHG Hotels & Resorts Group.
It will offer 355-rooms, suites and villas along with restaurants, bars, ballroom and meeting rooms.
In its heyday, the Mutiara Beach Resort was known for its all-sea facing 438 luxury rooms on a 18 acre plot.
They included a mini golf area, kids playground, vast swimming pools, fine restaurants and lounge.
Even till today, former staff of the Mutiara Beach Resort hold their annual gatherings to reminisce about their working days at the resort.
Nearby are Bahang Bay Hotel and also the Angsana Teluk Bahang.
Hopefully, with more hotels in the area, it will attract more local and international tourists to the Teluk Bahang area.
Nearby attractions include the Entopia, Penang National Park, Escape Theme Park among others.
The hotel is expected to open in 2025. And more importantly, offer employment opportunities for locals too.
It will only be the second Intercontinental Hotel in Malaysia after the Intercontinental Kuala Lumpur.
