Penang’s ever popular shopping and lifestyle experience destination, Gurney Plaza, unveiled its Lunar New Year with a thunderous roar of drums and lion dance performance recently.
This year, their theme rolled back the years to showcase the 1920’s Shanghai era with impressive 12ft interactive and conventional tram, urban streets, cafes, antique rickshaw for photo opportunities.
On hand to perform the launch ceremony was Pulau Tikus assemblyman Chris Lee, Queensbay Mall and Gurney Plaza general manager, Selina Ng and Peter Chan, centre manager for Gurney Plaza.
The opening gambit saw the roar of drums accompanied by lions dance performance. Earlier, a troupe of dancers and singers presented old Shanghai era songs to entertain guests.
Also available are the extensive collection of spring flowers and neon signages to usher the Spring Festival.
Shoppers can witness the Modern Chinese Orchestra performances, Double Acrobatic Lion Dance on high pole, LED Lion Dance, Shanghai Dance, Traditional Acrobatic Lion Dance, 24 Seasons drums show , God of Prosperity walkabout and many more.
Shoppers can also redeem items like Red Packets, Chinese Maltose Candy, Dragon Beard Candy, Festa Oriental Rice Bowl and Chopsticks, Ice Cream Lab for minimum spend promotions.
Gurney Plaza has set up their own Chinese Near Year Bazaar at their Green wall area and amphitheatre to showcase Chinese Traditional Orchestra Competition at 12pm on Jan 19th.
