To do their bid and celebrate this year’s Global Recycling Day, Shangri-La Rasa Sayang and Shangri-La Golden Sands Penang will be focussing on the theme “Re-envisioning the Recycling Centre” as a way of reminding all employees, suppliers, business partners and the community of sustainable practices and the benefit of recycling waste material.
It is also their objective to reduce the quantity of waste that goes into the landfill by practising waste segregation.
The hotel’s Central Recycling Centre offers three segregated compartments to collect recyclables, divided into plastic bottles/containers, paper/cardboard and metal/aluminium cans.
There is also a section for non-recycled waste such as wet cardboard, ceramics, mirrors, foil, plastic cups and disposable cutlery.
As a way of showing their small contribution towards protecting the planet, the resort invited 20 young students from the Pai Chai Primary School in Batu Feringgi to participate and help in their efforts of segregating recyclable waste at our Central Recycling Centre.
They hope that the children will find it useful and receive valuable lesson in protecting the environment and will pick-up good green habits by joining the resorts today and learn first-hand, the efforts of the hotels in supporting waste reduction and lessening the human carbon footprint’ impact on climate change.
They look forward to the younger generation learning ways towards a more sustainable and green future.
