Executive Chef Gary Ekar at The Danna Langkawi

Hailing from Sabah, Gary Ekar is the new Executive Chef at The Danna Langkawi Resort & Spa.

He is a France-trained Chef – trained at 1-Star Michelin level academy, Gastronomicom in France, and in-terned in Restaurant Alexandre-Michel Kayser, a French 2 Star Michelin restaurant.

As an award winning chef with more than 18 years of experience in the food & hospitality industry, including 5-Star and Michelin establishments.

“I am ambitious, creative and innovative with an appetite to create and elevate taste, flavor and food presentation”, said Gary.

His last place of employment was at the Anantara Desaru Coast Resort & Villas in Johor. 

During his tenure in the hospitality industry, he had worked in France, Kota Kinabalu in Sabah, Singapore, Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, Malacca, Genting Highlands, Kuwait, Kuala Lumpur among other locations.

On a personal note, he likes to work out at the gym during his free time. He tries to go to the gym at least three times a week to stay fit and maintain a good work-life balance as a chef. 

“Besides that, I also enjoy playing musical instruments like the guitar and spending time in nature—not forgetting walking along the beach.

 “I also love traveling to other countries to learn about different cultures, languages and food,” said Chef Gary to Penang Hyperlocal.

Recently, Chef Gary and his F&B team put out an impressive fine dining dinner during the Ethica Wines Italian wine promotion held at the Terrace Italian Restaurant. 

The wine tasting dinner was brought together with the collaboration of S.H. Maju Sdn Bhd.

Meanwhile, the resort has 123 rooms and several outlets, namely The Verandah Terrace Italian Restaurant, The Planters and the Straits & Co.
