Good news for those visiting Penang during the Hari Raya holidays.
If you are planning to go to Ayer Itam or Penang Hill area, the rapidPenang bus no 204 will be providing free shuttle transport from Komtar to Penang Hill lower bus station.
The free shuttle service will be from tomorrow, April 22 till 24, 2024.
The initiative is planned and sponsored by the Penang Hill Corporation to the tune of RM2,600 for the three-day period.
Present to launch the programme was State Exco for Tourism and Creative Economy YB Yeoh Soon Hin along with Penang Hill Corporation general manager Datuk Cheok Lay Lean.
Also lending support was the Malaysian Association of Hotels (Penang Chapter) chairman, Tony Goh and Penang Global Tourism (PGT) communications head, Ms Jasmine Tai.
“We hope that tourists and holiday makers will opt to take this free bus service and ease the congestion around the Ayer Itam area.
“The bus service will start from 9am to 9pm at intervals of 1 hour and 30 minutes,” said Yeoh.
He added that the pilot project will be expanded during other holiday seasons based on the results.
Some 7,000 to 8,000 visitors are expected to head to Penang Hill every day during the holiday season.
Yeoh also shared that in the first quarter of 2023, Penang Hill received nearly 400,000 visitors with 25% of them from neighbouring countries like Indonesia, Singapore and Thailand.
