Penang welcomes local airline, Firefly’s cabin crew to serve as volunteers at the Vaccines Administration Centres (PPVs).
This is following the Firefly’s cabin crew already volunteering at PPVs in the Klang Valley.
“Firefly has successfully kickstarted this plan in Klang Valley and is looking into making Penang its northern regional hub, which will ensure ample supply of manpower to execute this plan.
“Penang welcomes the mobilisation of cabin crews as volunteers at the Vaccines Administration Centres (PPVs) to support and expedite the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme (NIP),” said Penang State Exco for Tourism and Creative Economy, Yeoh Soon Hin in a press statement.
He added that Firefly has engaged his office to express their interest in helping Penang achieve herd immunity by supplying cabin crews to coordinate on-ground work at the state’s upcoming PPVs.
“This strategy will complement the burgeoning rise of PPVs in the state such as mega PPVs, private hospitals and clinics, as announced recently by the Chief Minister of Penang, Chow Kon Yeow after visiting several newly-operating PPVs,” he added.
“I believe these cabin crews will make an excellent group of volunteers, having been trained professionally in terms of hospitality, communication skills and people management,” he added after having a virtual meeting with Firefly Chief Executive Officer Philip See last Friday.
He said that manpower and other relevant resources need to grow in tandem with the amount of PPVs ramped up by the State Government of Penang, in order to ensure smooth and optimal delivery in this vaccination rollout.
“We commend Firefly for supporting the NIP, the state and of course, the people. The responsibility to battle the pandemic does not lie entirely in the hands of the government. In fact, an effective 3P partnership (Public-Private-People) is what we need,” he added.
