The grande dame of Penang’s hospitality industry – the Eastern & Oriental Hotel held its Christmas Tree lighting ceremony earlier this evening (Dec 1, 2024).
The long standing tradition, which is being observed since 2006, saw some 400 guests attending the vibrant evening.
Incidentally, the E&O Hotel was the first hotel on the island to start the Christmas tree lighting ceremony to usher in Christmas and the year-end festivities.
Welcoming their guests was general manager, Ms Alison Fraser and her management team.
They were hosted to fine wine, beer and a variety of canapes and small bites while awaiting the highlight of the night.
In her speech, Fraser expressed her gratitude to guests, business partners and her team for their support and
“We are also in the process of refurbishing our rooms and facilities in the hotel. The process is currently on-going, she said, adding that they will be celebrating their 140th anniversary next year too.
Fraser later led the countdown to mark the Christmas tree lighting ceremony with the applause and cheers of the guests.
The tree, a six-metre magnificent sight to behold, was meticulously decorated with shimmering lights, sparkling ornaments, and festive accents, creating a picture-perfect scene for all attendees.
A choir from the Penang Unity Vocal Ensemble, performed an enchanting repertoire of classic Christmas carols, creating a warm and joyful ambiance. Guests were entertained as they mingled and got to know new friends.
