The Embassy of Sweden in Kuala Lumpur is bringing the “Jom Kita Bincang” (Let’s talk about it) to Penang to explore the potential of children’s literature.

A session will be held tomorrow, Saturday, May 18, 2024 at the Penang Public Library along Jalan Scotland, Georgetown from 10am.

The ambassador of Sweden to Malaysia HE Dr Joachim Bergstrom along with Penang State Exco for Youth Sports and Health, YB Daniel Gooi will lend presence.

Also present will be Lova Berggren, a library educator and Therese Flodqvist, a librarian from the Tranströmer Library team, Stockholm City Library who will engage in various activities catered to children, young adults and adults.

The project aims to foster greater awareness and, in the spirit of Bincang, spark conversations about sustainability, health, and social issues.

They also want to encourage reading and stimulate intellectual curiosity among children, strengthen the role of children’s literature in education and culture, and stimulate creation of children’s literature.

The Jom Kita Bincang roadshow also includes an exhibition with a space to read translated Swedish children’s books, three of them translated into Bahasa Malaysia for this project, and surrounding events and workshops.

While staying within the promotion of sustainability, health, and social rights through children’s literature, the focus is adaptable.

Jom Kita Bincang is a multi-step project, with events and exhibitions around Malaysia.

The Embassy has closely collaborated with MBBY, Astrid Lindgren Memorial Awards, The Swedish Institute, and the Swedish Arts Council in developing the concept. In its implementation, the impact has been strengthened by collaboration with many local actors at the different localities.

By working together to address challenges and create innovative solutions, these partnerships are paving the way for a brighter future where every child has the chance to fulfil their potential and contribute meaningfully to society.

Together, we can sow the seeds for a future where every child can thrive and make a positive impact on society. Let’s join hands in this meaningful journey towards a brighter and more inclusive tomorrow.

The project had stops in Selangor (February 2024), Kuala Lumpur (April 2024) and will move to Kuching in June 2024 and Kuala Lumpur again in August 2024.
