The Shangri-la Rasa Sayang and Shangri-La Golden Sands, Penang ushered in the Year of the Snake with a spectacular lion dance performance. 

The Year of the Snake was welcomed with a dazzling display of cultural heritage and vibrant celebrations on the first day of the Chinese New Year (Jan 29). 

The event was marked by a magnificent Lion Dance and a traditional blessing ceremony, setting a joyful tone for the year ahead.

The celebration commenced with Cluster General Manager Jegan Selvarajan, accompanied by esteemed members of the Executive Committee, performing the revered eye-dotting ceremonies. This ancient ritual is believed to awaken the spirit of the lion, bringing good luck and prosperity. 

Subsequently, the Southern Lions troupe, along with the God of Prosperity and the Laughing Buddha, embarked on a journey through the hotels, bestowing blessings upon all the restaurants, bars, and even the back offices.

With both Rasa sayang and Golden Sands operating at full occupancy, guests from around the world gathered to witness the enchanting performances. The presence of the auspicious lions provided a unique opportunity for guests to engage with the cultural traditions, capturing memorable selfies and sharing in the festive spirit.

 The celebrations continued in the hotel’s lush garden, where a series of captivating performances enthralled attendees. 

Highlights included a mesmerizing Unicorn dance, the art of captivating mask changing, the powerful and rhythmic thundering drums of victory, a dynamic dragon dance, and breathtaking Chinese acrobatics. Each performance was a testament to the rich cultural tapestry and artistic excellence of the region.
