All the hard work and follow-ups done by the Penang state government is seeing its “fruits of labour” as China Airlines returned to the Penang International Airport (PIA) earlier today.
Airbus flight C1731 flew from Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport to land around 12.50pm and was greeted by Penang Global Tourism (PGT) chief executive officer, Ooi Chok Yan, general manager for China Airlines Penang Branch, Wen Po Mou, PIA senior airport manager Mohd Nadzim Hashm and Ms Lily Lin, assistant vice president of Lion Travel Service among others.
A kompang troupe made the welcoming ceremony more colourful and vibrant while guests were also presented with goody bags.
“We are pleased to welcome our Taiwanse friends to Penang again after more than two years. There will be four weekly flights provided by China Airlines and Starlux.
“We share a special bond with Taiwan as both destinations are islands and boast of food, scenery, tradition and culture,” said Ooi at the press conference.
He also stressed that other than holiday makers, there are also business travellers and their families coming to Penang.
“The convenient connectivity between the two destinations has also brought in noticeable investment from Taiwan to Penang that benefits economic growth and accelerates the economic recovery that is much needed, ” said Ooi adding that Penang owns the must-visit-to “7 Wonders of Penang” list which has been included in the itinerary for the Taiwanese media during their stay in Penang.
This development comes on the heels of news that Airasia will be providing direct flights to PIA from Bali as of October 20, 2022.
Kudos to the team at PGT for the exciting and vibrant developments on Penang’s tourism scene.
