We may soon find Chilean food in Penang.
This following the official visit by the Chilean ambassador to Malaysia, His Excellency Mr Diego Velasco-von Pilgrimm to Penang culminated with a signing of the “record of discussion” at the Eastern & Oriental Hotel.
Present to witness the occasion was the Governor of Penang Tun Dato Seri Ahmad Fuzi Abdul Razak.
The signing marks the intent for both parties to work closely on cultural, social, scientific and economic activities for the progress of their peoples with respect and protection of nature and for the benefit of future generations.
Also present was Penang State Exco for Tourism and Creative Economy, YB Yeoh Soon Hin along with various heads of departments.
Yeoh described Chile as a “hidden bubble” in South America” and looked forward to the collaboration in tourism, arts, food culture and more areas.
“Malaysia is the No.1 exporter of rubber gloves, furniture and pharmaceutical products to Chile. We look forward to the collaboration for our mutual benefit.
“As discussed, we may start with food exhibitions and related competitions to promote our food,” added Yeoh.
Meanwhile, His Excellency Diego Velasco -von paid tribute to the wonderful people, culture and food in Penang.
“Chile and Penang are maritime states and trading posts with multi-cultural society. There are many similarities between both states.
“I am personally impressed with the food, beauty of the streets and vibrant community,” he added.
