Penang Governor Tun Ramli Ngah Talib brought a surge of excitement to the Penang International Dragon Boat Regatta 2025 as he officiated the prize-giving ceremony at the Straits Quay Retail Marina this evening.

He was welcomed by State Exco for Tourism and Creative Economy YB Wong Hon Wai, Penang Island City Council Mayor Dato’ A. Rajendran, and a line-up of distinguished guests.

Stepping out of his official vehicle, the Governor wasted no time greeting the organising team and energising the atmosphere, stopping for photos with racers and spectators alike.

This year’s regatta saw a thrilling showdown among 54 teams from Singapore, China, Australia, Thailand, Brunei, Japan, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and several other nations. High-intensity battles unfolded across both youth and senior categories.

Top honours went to powerhouse crews including Pacific West Dragon Boat Club, Hong Kong’s VRC Dragons, UNISHAMS Dragon Boat Club from the Philippines, the Thailand team in the 250m International Premier Open, and China’s formidable Guangzhou Baiyun Shangheli Dragon Boat Team, among others. Champions were awarded medals and trophies in a vibrant, sports-charged ceremony.

Also in attendance were YB Wong Yuee Harng, YB Phee Syn Tze, along with the Consul General of Japan in Penang, Mr. Shinya Machida, and the Consul General of Thailand in Penang, Mr. Psusist Wongsurawat.
