Penang Hyperlocal recently sat down with Shino Low Del Mar, the newly appointed Director of Sales and Catering at the Ascott Gurney Penang, to talk about career, travel and what excites her about being back in Penang.

With more than a decade of experience in sales and marketing, Shino has built a dynamic career across a variety of industries — though her heart has always had a strong connection to the hospitality world.

Her resume includes stints with well-known names like Evergreen Laurel Hotel, Eastin Hotel and also at the prestigious JW Marriott Kuala Lumpur and the Ritz Carlton KL, where she honed her skills in client servicing, event planning, and strategic marketing.

But Shino’s professional journey does not stop there.

She also made her mark in the flexible workspace industry, having served as General Manager at Regus, the world’s largest provider of co-working and office spaces. There, she was deeply involved in both sales and operations, including leading the pre-opening of the Menara CIMB branch at KL Sentral — a key milestone in the brand’s Malaysia expansion.

Adding a global flair to her profile, Shino then spent six years living in Europe, an experience she describes as life-changing. During this time, she explored the continent’s vibrant cultures, picked up European Portuguese and developed a deeper appreciation for the richness of everyday life across different countries.

“I’ve always been drawn to the cultural side of travel — not just sightseeing, but understanding how people live, what they eat, how they speak, and what makes their communities unique,” she shared.

Now back on home turf in Penang, Shino has joined The Ascott Gurney Penang, part of the Plenitude International Sdn Bhd Group and is excited to bring her international insights and hospitality know-how to the role. She’s passionate about creating personalised, memorable experiences for guests — whether it’s for a corporate event, a wedding, or a casual gathering.

When she’s not busy crafting sales strategies or orchestrating events, Shino enjoys swimming, getting lost in a good book, and curating playlists of her favourite music.

Her go-to travel spots? Southern Europe tops the list — especially the Greek Islands, Italy, Spain, and Portugal, where she loves soaking in the sun, culture and of course, the local cuisine.

With her global mindset and warm, people-first approach, Shino brings fresh energy to the Plenitude team — and we can’t wait to see what she has in store.

Shino reports directly to Ascott Gurney Penang’s general manager KP Chan.

We too at Penang Hyperlocal congratulate Shino Low on her new undertakings.
