Calling for entries for the “Penang Urban Sculptures Programme- Where Light Meets Water ” organised by IJM Perennial Development Sdn Bhd.
The contest is open to all students from public and private colleges and universities.
They offer prizes worth RM20,000 (1st prize RM10,000 / 2nd prize RM5,000, 3rd prize RM3,000 and 10 consolation prizes at RM200 each.
The launching ceremony was held at the Youth Park here officiated by State Exco for Tourism and Creative Economy YB Yeoh Soon Hin.
Also present was IJM’s Senior General Manager Dato Toh Chin Leong and General manager, Tan Hun Beng along with Penang Director of the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture Jonathan Freddy Bagang and Tourism Malaysia Northern Region Director Siti Hajar.
In his speech, Yeoh said that Penang has been making international headlines with its rich history, art and culture. Being a proud UNESCO World Heritage Site, various types of arts, especially murals, have been widely used to capture the essence of this beautiful place. Another artwork that makes Penang’s art scene more impressive is the creative container art which has recently become one of the popular attractions in the pearl of orient through Penang International Container Art Festival.
“Many of the peeling walls of pre-war shophouses in the city became canvases for creative street artists, and it has been forming part of the attraction of Penang.
“This programme will also help raise awareness and enrich the art environment in Penang, given its concept aims at educating our people of the importance of art and water as well,” said Yeoh.
