Some 460 young students from the underprivileged ad B40 group were presented with much needed school essentials like school bags, uniforms and cash vouchers worth RM80 each.
The children ranged from all races of the community.
The “Back-to-School” program was headed by State Exco for Housing, Local Government, Town and Country Planning, YB Jagdeep Singh Deo and his team at the Ramakrishna Ashrama here.
Also present was Tan Sri Mohd Yusof Latiff, Member of Parliament for Jelutong, YB RSN Rayer, Dato Rethinam Pillay, Dato Gulab Mahatam Rai and Dato Malkit Singh.
In his address Jagdeep, stressed the importance of having a good education as it will ensure the development of oneself and also the country overall.
“It is also Important for our future mainly for the children as they will become future leaders. I am here today because of my education which I managed to acquire thanks to my parents.
“They put me through a good education process and that is why I became a lawyer, state assemblyman and state exco member today.
“We must ensure all our children are educated and be future leaders in the community,” added Jagdeep.
Meanwhile, housing developer and local businessman, Dato Rethinam also presented vouchers worth RM80 each to some 40 children at the ceremony. He has been carrying out this corporate social responsibility for the past nine years for the needy children.
Later, Jagdeep also helped serve breakfast to the children at the school canteen. They were treated to local delicacies and brought out wide smiles as they tucked in the food.
