Even the Penang Chief Minister YAB Chow Kon Yeow got wind of the banana leaf lunch the delegates at the BE @ Penang conference were feted to.
“I understand that the delegates will be treated to a banana leaf lunch later today.
“They might not remember most of the programmes at this gathering but they will surely remember the banana leaf lunch they were treated to,” said Chow in jest at a press conference after the launching ceremony at Setia Spice Convention Centre.
Guests were treated to authentic chicken curry, mutton masala fried fish, veggies, papadam and even the traditional payasam (dessert).
On top of it the meal was served on real banana leaves unlike those artificial banana leafs in eateries nowadays. Very few authentic Indian restaurants use real banana leaves as many have opted for artificial paper leaves.
Judging from the silence during lunch, surely the meal was tasty as guests were seen enjoying their meal.
Kudos to Penang Convention & Exhibition Bureau for coming up with the out of the box idea.
