Ascott Malaysia opened its 13th property in Penang – the Citadines Connect Cecil Georgetown in a grand ceremony.

Present at the opening ceremony was State Exco for Tourism and Creative Economy YB Wong Hon Wai and a host of dignitaries.

Among them was Mondi Mecja, country general manager for Ascott Malaysia, Dato Tony Goh Malaysian Association of Hotels (Penang Chapter) chairman, Penang Global Tourism chief executive officer, Ooi Chok Yan,  Lee Boon Kae general manager for  Citadines Connect Georgetown and Citadines Connect Cecil Georgetown among others.

In his opening speech Wong, hailed the opening of  Citadines Connect Cecil Georgetown.as another testament of Penang’s vibrant tourism sector and hospitality landscape.

“As we approach the year-end holiday season, the Penang State Government aims to invigorate Penang’s tourism sector, draw travelers and boost hotel occupancy rates, ultimately propelling the growth of the local hospitality industry.

“Some of the up-coming events are the Penang International Dragon Boat Regatta, Penang Bridge International Marathon, the Penang Chingay Parade among others.

“Looking ahead, the upcoming Penang Waterfront Convention Centre (PWCC) will unlock further potential for Penang as a destination for Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions (MICE)”, shared Wong.

Meanwhile, Mecja added that Ascott Malaysia now has 27 properties under Ascott Malaysia. They hope to open three more in Penang, namely the Harris Sunshine Penang in Ayer Itam, Citadines Tanjong Tokong and Oakwood Batu Maung.
