The Battle of the Chefs 2022 edition is back from Aug 5 to 7, 2022 at Gurney Paragon, Penang.
To-date some 400 local participants and another 60 foreign participants from Pakistan, Singapore and Thailand have registered.
Present at the launching ceremony earlier today was State Exco for Tourism and Creative Economy YB Yeoh Soon Hin accompanied by Penang Chefs Association president Audee Cheah, Deputy president and organising chairman, Billy Lee and Thomas See (Culinary Advisor).
Also present was Penang Global Tourism (PGT) Chief Executive Officer Ooi Chok Yan, Malaysian Association of Hotels (MAH Penang Chapter) chairman, Tony Goh, Hunza Executive Director, Ms Khor Tze Ming and Dato Lim Mee Lee (Penang Budget Hotels Association chairman).
Competition will be held for various categories ranging from junior chefs to master chefs under several segments and disciplines.
A new category this year is the Japanese Master Chef Challenge with seven classes.
“According to the United Nations World Tourism Organization, culinary arts, gastronomy and hospitality are the key to support hard-hit tourism industry.
“I have always encouraged the hospitality players to be creative and innovative. This is to ensure that we are in tune with the current trend and to remain competitive in the market,” said Yeoh in his address.
