More and more individuals and non governmental organisations (NGO) are coming forward to launch their own food bank programmes.
This time around, an NGO calling themselves the “Malaysia Food Bank” plans to distribute some 500 packets of food for the needy and underprivileged in the city.
Among the items include rice, bee hoon, sugar, salt, cooking oil, soya sauce, hot food and mineral water.
The project is in conjunction with the up-coming Merdeka celebrations.
Simultaneously, similar food distribution will be done in Kuala Lumpur and Perak on Aug 29, 2021.
In Penang, the distribution will be done at No.55, Love Lane, Georgetown from 5pm mainly for the homeless and trishaw riders.
They also encourage the drive-thru distribution for minimum contact. All distribution on a first come-first-serve-basis.
In the meantime, the organisers also welcome those keen to support and sponsors in cash or kind.
