The Equatorial Hotel which announced its closure is set to make its comeback as a Vaccine Administration Centre (PPV).
The 5-star hotel had been closed for the past three-months.
“After a short hiatus, Hotel Equatorial Penang will be temporarily transformed into a Vaccines Administration Centre (PPV),
“The hotel premises is expected to inoculate an average of 1,600 doses of Covid-19 vaccines daily to the state’s economic frontliners, specifically those working in the Penang’s Business & Industrial Sectors and Small Medium Industries (SMI),” said state exco for Tourism and Creative Economy, Yeoh Soon Hin in a press statement.
He also added that the hotel has always been a beacon of excellence and we thank them for supporting the state in these trying times despite having ceased operations since March 2021.
Yeoh was on hand to visit the site along with Penang Convention & Exhibition Bureau (PCEB) Chief Executive Officer Ashwin Gunasekeran for site inspection.
“The Penang State Government is exploring the feasibility of more hotels functioning as PPVs to ramp up Penang’s vaccination drive, strategically putting these sites to great use during this period when travel restrictions are still in place.
“Hotels are well-equipped in terms of facilities by having spacious ballrooms, halls and ample parking space. This will help to ensure that the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) can be implemented effectively to avoid overcrowding issues,” he said.
