Penang becomes the first state in the country to launch the tourism revival blueprint despite the challenges of the on- going pandemic.
The forward looking plan consists of 5 Rs namely “Rethink, Reset, Recover, Rebrand and Restart.
Penang Chief Minister, Chow Kon Yeow along with State Exco for Tourism and Creative Economy Yeoh Soon Hin were onhand to launch the initiative at the Wembley Hotel last night.
Joining them were representatives from the hospitality industry and related government agencies.
“Various activities and programmes have been considered for this holistic approach involving the Top Down and Bottom Up approach.
“We will need for the stakeholders to “buy in” the plans and adopt a sense of ownership for this plans to succeed,” said Yeoh.
Meanwhile, Chow in his address added that the tourism industry contributed some 49% for the coffers of the state.
“We are the first state in the country to put forward this blueprint to revive the tourism industry despite the challenges of the pandemic.
“The plan is also in tandem with Penang 2030 and I am confident that it will also attract foreign investment to the tourism industry,” said Chow.
