The World Miniature Hobby Show (WMHS) & Malaysia Competition (MALCOM) 2026 got underway at the Setia SPICE Convention Centre officiated by State Exco for Tourism and Creative Economy YB Wong Hon Wai along with PCEB CEO Ashwin Gunasekeran.
Also present was Choo Huang Ming, Owner of World Hobby Miniatures and Organizing Chair of World Miniature Hobby Show (WMHS) & Malaysia Competition (MALCOM)
In his opening address Wong shared that model art is something that is very close to his heart as he is also a model collector himself, in his office,
“I have a collection of more than 30 models of various types, including commercial airliners, fighter jets, tanks, warships, cruise ships, cable cars and et cetera. These are all souvenirs from airlines and transportation authorities.
“Though miniature in scale, each model embodies design, craftsmanship, history, and imagination. It has given me a deeper appreciation of why model-making is such a fascinating art form — one that has the remarkable ability to recreate the grandeur of the world in miniature form.
“I have been a strong supporter of the MALCOM – a Penang homegrown event – over the years. In the past, the event was primarily held in hotel ballrooms. This year, this prestigious event has been elevated to the Setia SPICE Convention Centre, a venue that offers more comprehensive facilities, larger exhibition space, and a higher international-standard convention environment,” shared Wong.
He also added that MALCOM positions itself as the largest and most comprehensive model exhibition and competition in Southeast Asia. This year there are more than 100 exhibitors representing 26 countries and regions globally.
VIP guests also toured the various booths and met up with exhibitors who have travelled here for the showcase.
Also present at the launch ceremony was HE Machida Shinya, Consul-General of Japan in Penang, Dr Annuar Mohamed Penang MOTEC Director, YB Wong Yuee Harng, YB Lee Boon Heng, Dato’ Khoo Boo Lim, MAH Vive President, Oh Kin Tat, Head of Convention Centre, SP Setia among others.
