A team from the St. Giles Wembley Penang and Cititel Express, Penang recently carried out their corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative through the distribution of 10 packs of 20kg fertiliser to Mount Miriam Cancer Hospital.

They were led by their general manager Dato Tony Goh and heads of departments. The initiative is part of the hotels’ ongoing commitment to sustainability and community care.

The hotel team had produced fertilisers from their food waste. The fertiliser was produced through a food waste management programme in collaboration with Entopia Feed, where organic food waste is repurposed into nutrient-rich fertiliser.

By converting food waste into a useful resource, the initiative helps reduce environmental impact while supporting greener community spaces.

The fertiliser provided will contribute to the maintenance of garden areas within the hospital, enhancing the environment for patients, visitors, and staff—creating a more peaceful and calming space that offers comfort, positivity, and a sense of healing.

This CSR effort reflects the hotels’ dedication to responsible hospitality practices and their continuous pursuit of initiatives that benefit both the environment and the community.

The commendable effort serves as a perfect example to minimise food wastage in the hospitality industry.
