The hotel formerly known as the Evergreen Laurel Hotel Penang, is an iconic 5-star establishment and is slated to undergo a major rebranding and upgrading exercise.
Strategically located along the vibrant Gurney Drive—a renowned tourist belt in Penang—the hotel is poised to reclaim its spot as one of the island’s premier hospitality landmarks.
Having been in operation for nearly three decades, the hotel is now embarking on an ambitious transformation journey.
Under Chung’s stewardship, Gurney Bay Hotel is set to undergo extensive renovations that will touch nearly every facet of the property. These include:

- Refurbishment of ballrooms to accommodate both corporate and social events with state-of-the-art facilities

Recognizing the growing competition with newer hotels entering the hospitality market, Chung has assembled a dynamic new management team.

Prior to his posting here, he has worked in various positions in the hospitality industry in Singapore and China. Among them are in cities like Shanghai, Fujian, Xiamen, Kunming, Yunnan, Hefei, Shandong to name a few.
Chung is assisted by his Director of Sales and Marketing, Ms Lee Ai Leng, Director of Finance, Ng Soo Chuan Marketing & Communication Manager, Ms Rochesder Hillary and their team members.
