The Amari SPICE Penang is celebrating the Loy Krathong festival till Dec 14, 2024 with its plethora of Thai cuisine.
Loy Krathong brings to life one of Thailand’s most enchanting traditions. Celebrated on the night of the full moon, the festival honours the water goddess, Phra Mae Khongkha, by floating intricately decorated krathongs down rivers and lakes, symbolizing the release of negative energy and the welcoming of new blessings.
Guest of honour at the launch ceremony was Ms. Suratchaya Palawongse, Interim Royal Thai Consul-General of Penang who was welcomed by the hotel’s EAM Ms Christine Rock and her team.
The celebration also saw the presentation of traditional Thai dance performances.
Suratchaya thanked Amari SPICE Penang for hostin the Loy Krathong festival for the second year running.
She also called on guests to enjoy the various Thai dishes put out by the F&B team at the hotel.
Suratchaya also cooked up a dish for the VIP guests to savour and took part in the traditional Krathong floating ceremony to mark the celebrations.
Meanwhile, the hotel has flown in two Siamese Chefs, namely, Khun Prakmuan and Khun Kit along with Khun Pun from Amari Pattaya to serve guests the authentic taste of Thai cuisine.
Both chefs come with many years of experience in preparing Thai dishes. Guests can therefore expect an abundance of traditional Thai favourites.
They started with the Nuer Phad Bai Kaphao which translates to Fried Beef with Spicy Basil Leaves.
Another dish is the Nuer Phek Tun, or Braised Lamb Stew is truly a comfort dish. It takes at least 4 hours of slow-braising with a combination of spices to ensure tenderness and meat that “falls-of-the-bone”. Have your rice bowls prepared.
Then there is the Som Tam Station, which offers salads using young papaya, young mango grated finely and bruised with chillies, garlic and Thai palm sugar, leaving a tang in your tastebuds.
Another favourite is the Pia Neung Manau, Steamed Sea Bass Fish, is commonly found at the dining table in most Thai homes. Using a combination of freshly squeezed lime and calamansi juice, palm sugar is also added to give a well-balanced profile while maintaining the freshness of the seabass.
Be on the lookout for Mee Hoon Gaeng Poo, which is Amari Phuket’s signature Crab Curry served with betel leaves and rice noodles.
Finally, Gaeng Som, a Southern-style spicy curry, will also be a feature at this station.
You will expect to find the classic desserts like Thab Tim Krob and Mango Sticky Rice, we recommend that you end the night with Khanom Babin or also known as coconut pancake. It is made from glutinous flour, arrowroot, grated coconut, eggs, oil and sugar, commonly sold on street carts.
