As part of their corporate social responsibility, (CSR), Pusat Perkhidmatan Setempat Nelayan’s (PPSN) festive tradition, the fishermen service centre gave 25 fishermen families food hampers to mark Christmas and New Year recently.
The 25 families live close to the proposed Penang South Islands (PSI) site.
Penang Infrastructure Corporation (PIC) Chief Executive Officer Dato Seri Farizan Darus said PPSN would present festive hampers filled with essential food items to fishermen every festive season.
“PPSN is the one-stop centre that disseminates accurate information on the Penang State Government’s PSI project.
“In the name of the friendship we have built since PPSN opened its doors in 2016, we hope our small festive contributions bring some cheer to the families and lessen their festive celebration expenses,” he said.
Farizan said PPSN would continue this festive tradition of giving to further strengthen friendship, unity and mutual respect among the various races and religions.
Apart from being the mediator between the state government and the people, particularly the South Penang Island fishermen, PPSN also organises social programmes for the local community.
The local fishermen and community will benefit from PSI through socioeconomic and welfare programmes and benefits under the project’s Social Impact Management Plan (SIMP), which offers financial aid, job and business opportunities, skills training programmes, education support for fishermen’s children and others.
