Residents in Taman Free School can now enjoy their newly upgraded lifts thanks to the Penang state government.
The project costs a cool RM1.28 million.
On hand to deliver the good news was State Exco for Housing, Local Government, Town and Country Planning, YB Jagdeep Singh Deo along with Penang Island City Council Secretary A. Rajendran.
“We will continue to deliver affordable housing which to-date is 135,545 units and maintenance of such units.
“However, we are extremely disappointed with the Federal Government which has been so late in delivering on both scores.
“Anyway, I am happy to be here at Taman Free School to witness the lift upgrading programme whereby two out of three blocks have been completed at a cost of RM1.28 million.
“This is part and parcel of our assistance to all Taman Free School residents, whereby since 2008 we have already spent RM18.52 million by both the Penang City Council (MBPP) and the Penang State Government and we will continue to do so, which is part and parcel of our vision in assisting all Penangites at public housing schemes.
“To-date, we have already allocated RM308.8 million for 33,830 upgrading schemes.
“I am also very happy to announce that we are in the process of planning for Taman Free School to be rejuvenated under our Urban Regeneration scheme under which residents will be provided with larger units and more facilities,” said Jagdeep who also handed out Deepavali cookies to residents there.
In the meantime, he also visited the Penang General Hospital to hand out Deepavali goodies to the frontliners on duty.
“This is a small token for all your hard work and dedication,” added Jagdeep.
Also present was at the ceremony Malaysia Hindhudharma Maamandram, chairman N Thanabalan accompanied by his committee members.
The NGO had earlier presented goodies to inmates to the Penang Prison and the Jawi detention Camp last week.
