Exchange of souvenirs

Thailand’s Minister for Tourism and Sports, Mr Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn made a private visit to the  Pinang Peranakan Mansion accompanied by a seven-member delegation.

On hand to welcome him was State Exco for Tourism and Creative Economy YB Yeoh Soon Hin.

The Minister’s schedule also includes a visit to the Boon Siew Group Gallery where a Thai Fair is currently underway and a courtesy call on Penang Chief Minister YAB Chow Kon Yeow.

“We know that Thailand is famous in the tourism sector and we too are big in tourism. As such, we can learn together and work together. 

“This is also because of the strong ties between Malaysia and we also want to a lot of Thais to come to Penang. They are among the Top 10 of our tourist numbers. Other similarities include Phuket which is similar to Penang. Thus, we can explore together and see as much as possible.

“Now there are direct flights between Bangkok and Penang and see an increase in the number of Thai arrivals to Penang. We will also plan for experience Penang exhibitions in Thailand soon, hopefully by this year,” said Yeoh. 

The two statesmen later exchanged souvenirs to mark the visit. Also present was Pinang Peranakan Mansion Museum Director Ms Lillian Tong among others.
