The Member of Parliament for Bukit Bendera, YB Wong Hon Wai officiated the charitable programme held at the Sri Sakthi Vinayagar Temple Fettes Park in conjunction with the upcoming Deepavali celebrations.

Some 70 recipients for the nearby needy and underprivileged community received seasonal goodies like mixture, biscuits and cookies.

They were also presented with a RM100 ang pow packet.

The commendable event was organised by the committee of the 80 year-old temple which carries out charitable programmes for every festival irrespective of race or religion.

Present were the temple committee chairman, K. Ragu, Secretary, R. Rajasegaran and assistant secretary, S. Kalimuthu.

Wong himself donated RM5,000 towards the worthy cause.

Other donors were state assemblyman for Pulau Tikus, Chris Lee donating RM2,000, Superintendent Tuan Sara from Georgetown police station also contributed RM2,000 while Dr Sathitharan from Island Hospital donating RM500.

More donations were received from other supporters and well-wishers.

“We have been doing these charitable projects for the past five years for all major festivals and celebrations. In a year, we carry out three to four of these charitable projects,” said Rajasegaran who also thanked all donors.

He also added that the temple is under the auspices of the Penang Hindu Endowment Board who also renders their support.
