Hospitality industry workers in Penang are in for a windfall following a boom in the industry and the influx of tourists from local and foreign destinations.
A reliable source familiar to the industry shared that the employees stand to receive bonuses ranging from a minimum of two months to 3.5 months each respectively.
“The move will not only boost the morale of the staff but also motivate other employers to step up their benefits and bonuses for their employees too”, said the source.
It will also help to attract more new talents to the industry which is always looking for more and more potential workers.
This positive vibe was also picked up by the Chief Minister of Penang, YAB Chow Kon Yeow during the soft opening of the Iconic Marjorie Hotel, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel recently.
He commended the impressive number of tourists visiting Penang, thus contributing to the state’s overall economy.
“People share with me that Penang’s “X-Factor” are its food, history, heritage, culture, the hospitality and the hoteliers that make our state so welcoming.
“The Penang State Government stands united with the corporate sector in our efforts to elevate Penang’s tourism sector and take it to greater heights.
“As Penang continues to build its reputation as a hub for tourists and investors alike, the people of Penang stand to benefit the most”, said Chow.
Adding to the positive trend is the growing number of direct flights from China, India and other destinations to the Penang International Airport (PIA).
To-date, Penang is connected by 35 international direct flight routes operated by major airlines companies.
“The direct flights link us 19 key global destinations like Shanghai, Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Xiamen, Hong Kong, Dubai, Singapore, Bangkok, Phuket, Medan, Jakarta, Surabaya, Banda Aceh, Taipei, Ho Chi Minh, Doha, Chongqing, Chennai and Kunming”, said YB Wong Hon Wai, the State Exco for Tourism and Creative Economy.
Waiting on the wings is another new airline – Loong Airlines which will also offer direct flights from Xian, China to Penang with effect today Dec 30, 2024
