Vietjet has reaffirmed its commitment to reducing its carbon footprint and promoting green aviation by operating the first flights using Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) fueled in Vietnam. This milestone not only marks a significant achievement for the country’s aviation industry but also contributes to the global shift toward sustainable air travel.
.
The two Vietjet flights using SAF successfully departed from Tan Son Nhat International Airport in Ho Chi Minh City, bound for Melbourne (Australia) and Seoul (South Korea). The sustainable fuel for these flights was supplied by Petrolimex Aviation, a prominent jet fuel provider in Vietnam Meeting strict international aviation standards, SAF is safely used in commercial flight operations and reduces carbon emissions by up to 80% compared to traditional fossil fuels.
Vietjet, committed to Vietnam’s COP26 pledge of achieving net-zero emissions by 2050, has partnered with international experts to research, develop, and implement SAF.
Mr. Dinh Viet Thang, Director General of the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam, said:”Vietjet and Petrolimex Aviation have successfully conducted the first international flights using sustainable aviation fuel being fueled in Vietnam, clearly demonstrating their commitment to sustainable fuel usage. This is a collective source of pride for the entire industry as we contribute to environmental protection and sustainable development, affirming Vietnam’s role as a responsible member of the global aviation community.
Mr. Dinh Viet Phuong, Vietjet CEO, said: “Today’s Vietjet flights using SAF are particularly meaningful, symbolizing green flights and eco-friendly air travel, offering passengers a wonderful, environmentally conscious flying experience, especially on international routes. As a pioneering airline in the research, development and usage of SAF, Vietjet remains committed to further reducing carbon emissions in aviation and fostering sustainable growth.
These first SAF flights extended Vietjet’s decade-long commitment to environmental protection and sustainable development. As a sustainable business, Vietjet was the first Vietnamese airline to produce a comprehensive ESG report and continues to optimise resources to support environmental protection and Vietnam’s green growth strategy.
Vietjet has pioneered initiatives such as transitioning from paper to electronic tickets, promoting online check-in and payments, and using eco-friendly, recyclable materials onboard. The airline also implements fuel-saving programmes and regularly participates in environmental efforts, such as tree planting and ocean clean-ups.
Additionally, Vietjet continues to expand its global flight network to meet the increasing demand for air travel. With a modern, fuel-efficient fleet, the airline offers daily flights from Kuala Lumpur to Ho Chi Minh City, along with a new direct service to Hanoi set to commence next month.
These routes not only enhance travel links between Malaysia and Vietnam’s major cities but also facilitate seamless connections to various destinations across Asia-Pacific, promoting a more sustainable approach to exploring the region.
