The Penang Governor, Tun Ahmad Fuzi Abdul Razak along with Penang Chief Minister YAB Chow Kon Yeow handed out RM1 million worth of scholarships benefitting some 20 deserving students from the B40 category.

The programme is an initiative by the UNITAR Education Group (“UNITAR”), in collaboration with the Penang State Government.

Also present was the Vice Chancellor of UNITAR International University, Professor Emeritus Tan Sri Dr Sahol Hamid Abu Bakar and Puvan Balachandran, group chief executive officer of UNITAR International University among others.

This is the second year running the project is being carried out thus reaffirming their commitment to providing learning opportunities to Penangites through the B40 Education initiative.

It should be highlighted that the programme was initiated by the governor himself aimed at empowering individuals from the B40 segment by providing them with access to quality education.

Last year, the same amount of funding supported 13 students.

The scholarship awarding ceremony will be held at Seri Mutiara, the official residence of the Governor of Penang.

“This ceremony is not another event for the state, it also reflects the commitment of the state government along with Unitar to improve and excel in providing education for the future leaders of the state.

“I also wish to convey my greatest appreciation for UNITAR International University for such a generous amount of scholarship to benefit the children of Penang.

“With the Penang Vision2030 and the advent of digital Technology, it is of utmost importance to embrace higher education for the future talents in the state”, said Chow in praising the scholarship presentation.

The recipients will pursue either Foundation or Diploma programmes, with the opportunity to continue to a Bachelor’s Degree programme.

“This scholarship award will become a major stepping stone to becoming highly employable graduates, giving students a wonderful opportunity to establish successful long-term careers and become strong income generators in the future,” said UNITAR Vice-Chancellor, Professor Emeritus Tan Sri Ir Dr. Sahol Hamid bin Abu Bakar.
