By V. SivajiTalents from Penang reached the world stage when they took part in the World Championship of Performing Arts (WCOPA) hled in Hollywood, California in the United States of America recently.
The two winners were eight-year-old Quah Xin En and 35-year-old Honniey J Goay.
Quah won three awards for the Rock Music category for children under 10, and another gold medal for the 8 to 10 age group category and another silver medal.
Meanwhile, Goay also won in the Hip Hop solo dance, she also won gold medals for the original open dance, a silver medal for Singing and Dance and another silver for Folk Dance category.
“Actually, many of my friends did not encourage me to take part in the competition as there were many participants from all over the world.
“However, I was confident I could do well and showcased my talents and won due to my originality and also for carrying the Malaysian flag and costume.
Present to show appreciation for their victory was State Exco for Tourism and Creative Economy YB Wong Hon Wai along with YB Daniel Gooi who is the State Esco for Youth, Sports and Health.
“We commend these young talents for their victory on a world stage and bringing glory to the state and country.
“We are proud of their victory and hope that more youth can follow their example,” said Gooi.
Both winners received a certificate of appreciation and RM2,000 each for their fine efforts.
