The Penang state government presented an incentive of RM10,000 each to two of the Olympians representing the state and country at the upcoming Olympic Games.

Badminton player Chan Peng Soon and gymnastic (artistic) representative, Jeremiah Loo who hail from Penang received their mock cheques in a virtual ceremony this evening.

“We are proud of your representation at the 32nd Olympics which will be held in Tokyo, Japan.

“We hope that this incentive will motivate you to perform to your best and bring glory to the country.

“Although there will be no spectators at the badminton venues, we hope that you will not lose your motivation to bring back the gold medal for the country,” said Penang Chief Minister, Chow Kon Yeow.

Also present at the press conference was the state exco for Youth and Sports, Soon Lip Chee.

Chan in response thanked the state government and added that this is his third time representing the country to the Olympics.

“I will do my utmost to bring back a medal for the country,” he said.

Jeremiah, who is representing the country for the first time, expressed his gratitude to the state government and the state sports council.

A total of 30-member strong Malaysian contingent will represent the country at the Tokyo Olympics starting from July 23 till August 8, 2021.
