With immediate effect, the Jelutong market has been closed for 10 days due to an outbreak of Covid-19 cases.

Penang Island City Council issued a notice to inform operators and the public at the market.

The press statement read that four cases had been detected among the stall operators at the market.

There are some 60 stalls inside the market while another 186 temporary operators at the market.

Sanitisation and other deep cleaning work will be carried out immediately.

Penang Island City Council mayor, Yew Tung Seang also held a press conference earlier to announce the measures.

Meanwhile, on the mainland, the Bagan Ajam market will also be closed due to the eight positive cases there.
