As a gesture of gratitude and appreciation, the frontliners from the Penang Island City Council (MBPP) and Seberang Perai City Council (MBSP) were presented with tokens in the form of daily essential products.
On hand to present the token was State Exco for Local Government, Housing, Town and Country Planning, Jagdeep Singh Deo at a ceremony held at the MBPP grounds.
“The frontliners are those who are on the ground to ensure all of the standard operating procedures (SOP) are followed by members of the public in view of the Covid-19 pandemic.
“A total of 847,000 covid-19 tests have been carried out on the island in locations like markets, food courts, construction sites etc.
“Meanwhile, on the mainland, some 963,000 tests have been carried out with over 99 per cent compliance from the public,” said Jagdeep.
Out of the 5,000 employees from both councils, some 993 from MBPP and 391 MBSP personnel have already received their first dose of the vaccines.
In the meantime, he also reminded all of the frontliners to register to receive their vaccine since they are exposed to the virus while on their daily duty.
