Man-of-the-Match

Defending champions Korea took the game to hosts Malaysia by scoring in the first quarter to boost their chances of retaining the SAS Cup 2022.

It was a disappointing start to the home team as they further went behind by another goal late in the second quarter to make it 2-0.

After the break, Korea kept up the pressure to make it 3-0 through another penalty corner.

Despite several tries by the Malaysian team they could not get on the score sheet.

Taking advantage of the momentum, Korea managed to see off the game till the final whistle.

Korean player, Jang Jonghyun was also selected as the Man-of-the-Match.

Earlier, South Africa provided the first surprise of the Sultan Azlan Shah Cup 2002 when they defeated Pakistan by 4-1.

They were up by 2-0 going into the interval with goals coming from a field goal and penalty corner.

Following the break, the match was evenly contested but South Africa earned another penalty corner to go 3-0 up.

Soon, South Africa piled on the pressure to earn another goal making it 4-0. Way to go South Africa!

After the break Pakistan pulled back a goal by a beautiful move from the centre of the pitch.

In the opening match of the tournament, Japan defeated Egypt 1-0.
