Dubbed to be the largest convention centre in Penang or even the Northern Region, the Penang Waterfront Convention Centre (PWCC) @ The Light City saw its topping-out ceremony officiated by Penang Chief Minister YAB Chow Kon Yeow yesterday evening. 

The 330,000 square feet floor area can accommodate 5,000 people at any one time.

It will be suitable for international conventions, live performances and trade shows in line with the officiating the topping-out ceremony for the Penang Waterfront Convention Centre @ The Light City yesterday.

He was joined by Lee Chun Fai, Group CEO and Managing director, IJM Corporation Berhad and Pua Seck Guan, Executive chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Perennial Holdings Private Limited.

Also present was Penang State Exco for Tourism and Creative Economy YB Wong Hon Wai and Penang City Mayor, Dato A Rajendran.

“As the Chief Minister of Penang, I stand here with immense pride, knowing that our state continues to be at the forefront of development initiatives that impact not only our community but also resonate on the global stage.

“With the anticipation of the upcoming LRT project, this project with its substantial gross area and advanced facilities, underscores our dedication towards providing world-class infrastructure that positions Penang as a leading destination for diverse and impactful events”, siad Chow in his address.

Meanwhile, Lee added that the project overlooking the Straits of Penang is expected to be completed in Q2 of 2025.

“The Light City underscores IJM’s commitment not only to constructing buildings but also creating spaces that actively contribute to the vibrancy and economic growth of Penang”, he added.

Pua in his remarks added that the topping-out of PWCC marks the largest convention centre in Penang and the centrepiece of The Light City.

“The Light City will cater for the global MICE gatherings, trade shows and live performances. It will serve as the finest integrated waterfront mixed-use development in Penang and the region for locals and the international community”, he said. 

The Light City will also feature two international standard hotels, mall high-rise residences, 2,900 parking lots and other facilities. 

Meanwhile the Waterfront Shoppes, the largest waterfront retail mall in Penang will showcase 300 specially curated food and beverage outlets, entertainment, spanning four floors.
