Penang CM YAB Chow Kon Yeow and YB Jagdeep at the launch ceremony
In their efforts in ensuring that everyone has “a roof over their heads” the Penang State Government is the only authority in the country to offer their “Rent to Own” programme for affordable housing.
In line with these commendable aspirations, the first urban regeneration programme at “5 Point Blocks Flats” in Lorong Mahsuri 10 was launched in Bayan Baru this morning.
Present was Penang Chief Minister YAB Chow Kon Yeow, State Exco for Housing, Local Government, Town and Country Planning YB Jagdeep Singh Deo, Member of Parliament for Bayan Baru YB Sim Tze Tzin, MBPP Mayor Dato A. Rajendran, Hunza Properties Berhad founder Datuk Seri Khor Teng Tong among others.
Jagdeep hailed the state’s achievement that the state government has achieved a total of 150,955 affordable homes or 68.8% of their target of 220,000.
“I am confident that we will reach our target way before the Penang Vision 2030 timeline.
“We also offer low cost housing at an affordable rate of RM42,000 compared to other states which are much higher,” said Jagdeep.
He also defended several reclamation projects in which as many countries in the world also reclaim land. Examples are Hong Kong and Singapore.
“How are we going to provide homes for our children and their children ?
“We are committed to deliver livable comfortable homes for the people of Penang as the new urban regeneration programme will offer an area of 800 sq ft homes,” he said
Chow in his speech reiterated that the state government is committed to offering affordable homes to members for the people of Penang.
“We will ensure that the projects will be carried out in good quality. Look at our record of offering homes for the people of Penang before making any remarks. We have more of such projects to be carried out.
“I also commend YB Jagdeep for taking on this challenge to provide affordable homes for the people,” he ended.
Syabas to the Penang state government for coming up with the “out of the box” ideas to provide affordable homes for the people of Penang.
