As in previous years, the Sunway Group will again live up to its caring corporate citizen’s role by handing out raya cheer for the underprivileged nationwide.
They kick-started their month-long #SunwayforGood Raya Cheer programme just ahead of the festive season to bring about much needed cheer to various communities in need.
The programme is expected to reach out to more than 9,000 beneficiaries nationwide this year. The first initiative will see Sunway deliver a total of 6,500 packets of specially prepared bubur lambuk to the frontline workers, essential service staff, and B40 families nationwide starting from May 1, 2020.
Some 2,000 packets of bubur lambuk will be distributed by the Penang State Assembly for Seberang Jaya to the B40 communities and frontline workers in Penang, from May 13 to 20.
All safety precautions such as face masks and social distancing will be carried out during the distribution.
The nutritious bubur lambuk was prepared by Sunway Hotel Seberang Jaya and Sunway Hotel Georgetown’s master chefs in four batches, in order to ensure they are delivered fresh and there will be no wastage, which is in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG).
Each batch sees 500 packets of bubur lambuk being carefully prepared over six hours and distributed to Hospital Seberang Jaya, Perda District Police Headquarter, the fire fighters, local residents in Seberang Jaya, Komtar and Masjid Kapitan Keling.
“As a corporation, we believe it is now more critical than ever for us to help uplift the B40 community. We believe that many individuals are adversely affected by the Movement Control Order and the extension of controlled MCO.
“We are pleased to be able to working with the Penang State Government to help those who need it most in these trying times. By working together, we can build a sustainable, progressive nation that leaves no one behind.” said Sunway Hotel Georgetown and Sunway Hotel Seberang Jaya General Manager, Prakash Kumaran.

“Therefore, I would like to convey my sincere thanks to Sunway for cooperating with the State Assembly Office for Seberang Jaya in sharing this glorious month with the people of Seberang Jaya in need.” added Afif.
Over in the Klang Valley, 4,500 packets of bubur lambuk prepared by Sunway Resort Hotel & Spa, Sunway Putra Hotel and Sunway Velocity Hotel will be distributed by Sunway’s volunteers and partner, a not-for-profit organisation Adab Youth Garage (AYG), to the frontline workers at Hospital Kuala Lumpur, Hospital Serdang and Hospital Sungai Buloh as well as essential service staff, police officers and B40 families every Friday from May 1 to 22.
As for the raya luncheon for prison inmates project, Sunway also extends its raya cheer to reach out to prison inmates.
A special Hari Raya luncheon on June 16 will be hosted by Sunway for the community of 1,700 in the Kajang Women’s Prison. Besides the luncheon, the community will also receive packets of cookies and toiletry hampers, which are also sold by the prison inmates.
“The inmate’s small businesses such as production of batik and women’s clothes, floor mats and pastries as well as beauty parlour and spa room services has been affected by the MCO.
