Taiwan’s Starlux Airlines is the first Taiwanese airline to provide direct flights out of Penang to Taipei with connecting flights to Macau, and Da Nang, too.
The boutique airline flew into Penang for the first time on Jan 23 and was given a water salute at the Penang International Airport in Bayan Lepas
On hand to welcome the passengers was Penang State Exco for Tourism, Arts, Culture and Heritage, Yeoh Soon Hin, General Manager of Airlines Marketing, Malaysia Airports, Mohamed Sallauddin Mat Sah along with other dignitaries.
“We would like to welcome Starlux Airlines to join the 17 foreign carriers that are currently operating at Penang International Airport,” said Mohd Sallauddin.
With daily flights from Taiwan, this new route will benefit our Malaysian tourism during VM2020.
PIA handled more than 8 million passengers in 2019 and saw a 3.9% growth from the previous year for passengers from Taiwan alone.
With Starlux’s hub at Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport, the airlines will initially fly routes in Southeast Asia and Northeast Asia.
Gradually they hope to develop trans-oceanic routes to North America starting in 2022, growing steadily towards their aim of becoming one of the world’s leading top airlines.
