Royal Caribbean International’s Serenade of the Seas

In a historic first for 2024, Penang is welcoming three maiden calls in a single month berthing at its shores, marking a significant milestone in the continuous efforts to elevate Penang’s status as a top-tier tourist destination.

This achievement underscores the growing appeal and allure of Penang among international travelers and cruise operators alike.

The first cruise to dock in Penang will be Costa Deliziosa. With a capacity of 2,828 passengers, it will arrive on April 12th, 2024, from 8 am to 1 pm, offering visitors a brief yet memorable glimpse into the wonders of Penang.

Following shortly after is Resilient Lady, accommodating 2,770 passengers, scheduled for April 14th, 2024, from 9 am to 7 pm, promising a full day of exploration and delight.

Lastly, Serenade of the Seas, with a capacity of 2,500 passengers, will dock on April 26th, 2024, from 9 am to 6 pm, providing ample time for travelers to immerse themselves in the beauty and culture of Penang. These arrivals mark another chapter in Penang’s rich maritime history, inviting guests to experience the charm and hospitality of this vibrant destination.

Nestled strategically within Southeast Asia, Penang emerges as an optimal stopover for cruise liners navigating the region. As a city port in this region, the Swettenham Pier Cruise Terminal in George Town exemplifies Penang’s commitment to delivering top-tier facilities and services tailored to cruise tourists.

Following the recent completion of the terminal’s expansion, its capacity has been significantly enhanced, now capable of accommodating up to two quantum-size cruise ships and catering to 12,000 passengers. This milestone was evidenced recently with the simultaneous berthing of both Genting Dream and Royal Caribbean Spectrum of the Seas.

The robust growth of cruise tourism in Penang is evident from the data. From 2022 to 2023, the number of international vessel berths nearly doubled, increasing from 84 to 156, marking an impressive growth rate of 85.71%.

Furthermore, upon closer examination of the year-to-date data for January and February 2023 and January and February 2024, it is evident that both the number of international vessel berths and passenger numbers continue to exhibit upward trends. The international vessel berths increased from 31 to 45, demonstrating a growth rate of 45.16%, indicating Penang’s sustained momentum in attracting international cruise ships.

Penang has been one of the favourite stopovers by renowned cruise lines such as Royal Caribbean International, Resort World Cruises, TUI Cruises, Costa Cruises, AIDA Cruises, Norwegian Cruise Line, Celebrity Cruises, Princess Cruises and Cunard Line.

As Penang celebrates these remarkable achievements and milestones, it remains steadfast in its commitment to showcasing the rich cultural heritage, diverse attractions, and warm hospitality that define Penang as a must-visit destination.

Penang continues to evolve and thrive, yet it remains true to its roots, welcoming guests from near and far to experience the magic and allure of this captivating destination
